Scope Creep Examples — SEO & marketing
A new marketing-tool integration, requested after go-live
The SEO campaign launched as scoped. The client asks for a marketing automation tool to be connected to track SEO leads — never discussed beforehand.
The SEO campaign launched with the optimization and reporting scope defined in the retainer — no marketing automation platform was part of that scope. A month in, the client adopts a marketing automation tool for lead nurturing and asks for organic-search leads to be tagged and routed into it automatically, so they can track which leads came from SEO specifically. Useful for attribution, but it's new setup work connecting a system that wasn't part of the original engagement.

Out-of-scope clause→ — A tool integration requested after the campaign is live falls outside the retainer's defined optimization-and-reporting scope.

We can set up tagging so organic leads are identifiable in your automation tool — since this is a new integration beyond the current retainer scope, I'll put together a quick estimate for the setup, likely a few hours of one-time work. Once it's in place, ongoing lead attribution reporting could also be added to our monthly report if useful.
How this usually resolves
This is a good opportunity to fold the new tracking into the existing monthly report once it's set up, rather than treating it as a separate ongoing deliverable — a small one-time setup fee plus an enhanced report is usually simpler for both sides than a whole new recurring line item.
